In light of recent events, many people have been asked to isolate and refrain from gathering or traveling this spring and summer. We might as well make the best of it and try to enjoy the time off at home! A staycation can be just as enjoyable as a traveling vacation…if you know how to do it right!
Here are five tips to have fun on your staycation:
Are you and your family ready for a great staycation? Is your pool ready?
Check this post for a handy how-to guide on getting your pool ready for use. Your pool can be your best friend in the battle for staycation fun.
Get some sunshine and a change of scenery by taking a hike or enjoying a walk in a tranquil park. You’ll want to put on some sunscreen and mosquito repellant. Skip the flip-flops; you’ll want comfortable walking or hiking shoes so your “dogs” aren’t barking when you get home later! Pack a picnic lunch and bring a blanket or two for everyone to sit on. Don’t forget some hand sanitizer or handy wipes for easy cleaning of hands before and after eating.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), COVID-19 cannot survive in properly treated pool and hot tub water, so take advantage of your safe oasis of fun as much as possible! Create some great family memories right in your own backyard. Buy some new pool toys and turn your pool into a miniature water park! Don’t forget to have extra sunscreen and towels on hand!
At night, put up a tent in the backyard and break out the sleeping bags for camping at home. Make a miniature s’more station (details here). Let the kids stay up telling ghost stories for an unforgettable family night under the stars!
You can rent a movie on-demand or stream it through Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime. Buy some popcorn, chips, and candy through your local grocery delivery service or Amazon, and you’re all set for a great movie night! Want to make it even cheaper? Watch one of the free options on television or a family favorite you already own.
Enjoy a little family competition with a game night! Break out the Monopoly, Caravan, Exploding Kittens, Trivial Pursuit, Apples to Apples…the options are endless. It’s a fun way to spend time together!
